Dressing up is very simple unless you have to dress up for a job interview! We understand the struggle that you have already been through with your CA Final exam, so don’t fear when CA Monk is here. We are here with our CA freshers’ guide to what to wear to an interview which is in accordance with the dress code prescribed by the council of ICAI so that you walk in with confidence and walk out with your offer letter since interviews are not about just skill assessment anymore.

Interview attire for men and women

  • Men - Wearing a suit is a personal choice but if you opt to do so, pick a solid color. The shirt should be a cotton one and of a soothing color like white, blue, or any other pastel shades. For the bottoms, choose a dark-colored pair of regular-fitting trousers or chinos. Do not wear trousers which are too tight. Make sure that your interview attire is properly ironed and does not have any stains.
  • Women - A solid-colored blazer paired with a skirt or trousers are preferable. The shirt could be of any pastel shade made of the cot that to wear to an interview?. The bottoms should be of a dark color. The outfit should be ironed properly without any frills or stains.

Footwear

  • Men - Well-fitted formal shoes with or without laces. The most preferable colors are black and brown.
  • Women - Do not wear heels that are too high. Choose a comfortable pair of moccasins, belly, or sandals.
Make sure that your footwear is nicely polished without a speck of dust, and that it goes well with your interview attire.

Accessories

  • Men - A wristwatch makes a good impression but avoid one with a sporty or a fancy look. A simple one, either metallic or leather strap would do. Pick out a simple, solid tie (preferably of ICAI) that goes with your outfit. Complete your formal look with a decent leather belt. Make sure that you are wearing full-length formal socks.
  • Women - The number of accessories should be kept to a minimum and simple jewelry should be used. A simple wristwatch would look great with your interview attire. Do not use any fancy accessories. If wearing a tie, choose a simple, solid tie (preferably of ICAI).

Personal Hygiene and Makeup

  • Men - Keep a professional hairdo along with well-groomed facial hair and trimmed nails. Use a pleasant deodorant/mist/perfume.
  • Women - If you keep your nails long, they should be properly filed and manicured. Only light and nude shades should be used for nails, not glittery ones. Hair must be combed nicely and kept in a simple bun or ponytail. Bold lipsticks should be avoided and makeup should be kept subtle.

Note

Even during the online mode, it is recommended that you follow the dress code prescribed by ICAI since many studies show that dressing up in formal attire fosters strategic thinking and enhances confidence.


Everything is said and done, do not forget to have a good sleep before the big day. Eat nutritious food before your interview that can keep you energetic. CA Monk wishes you all the best!
