You prepare for each subject and appear in the exams putting in the maximum hard work. Now the only thing left is to do things that will bridge the gap between normal performance and near to perfection performance in the exam since by now, you are well prepared in all the subjects. All you need to do is practice more and more to know your weaknesses and overcome your final exams fear. You should be in the habit of writing efficiently for three hours in your paper.
Advantages of giving Mock TestsTime Management: Being a CA student, I am sure you know by now how difficult it is to complete a paper in three hours. Time Management is very important to complete the full 100 marks in your paper. You need to maintain your pace right from the beginning and manage the time accordingly.
Helps in allocating time to topics that need more time: If you haven’t given a paper before consisting of Multiple Choices and Case Studies, then it is going to be a real challenge for you. MCQs need an in-depth reading and analysis which consumes a lot of time. If you have practiced it before it is going to help you a lot.
Gives an understanding of the whole paper: Mock tests are designed similarly to the final paper. Therefore, taking a mock test gives you a great idea about how questions are going to be asked, how to choose which question you will attempt, and which chapters will approximately carry how many marks.
Prepares you for the day: It is not easy to give CA exams amidst all the pressure and expectations. Mock Tests prepare you for the day and give you a taste of the whole situation well in advance.
Teaches you how to revise in 1.5 days: If you give your Mock Test in a similar way as the final exams, then you can also revise the whole syllabus in 1.5 days. It is a real challenge to complete the whole syllabus in the short period between two exams. It is advisable to give the mock test in the pattern of the actual timetable. It will help you to decide how will revise the subject just before your exam.
Gives you more clarity about diverse topics: Some questions can be interpreted in different ways while some may be difficult to understand. Mock tests attract your attention on some of these topics which you might come across answering the paper.
The examiner gets less than 10minutes per paper. How to grab his attention so that you have a winning paper? He is going to check your paper according to ICAI suggested answer sheet.
Lastly, I would suggest you give mock tests during 2.00-5.00 p.m to get in the habit. Lock yourself in your room and don’t let anyone else interrupt you. Revise your topics thoroughly and answer as you would in your final exam. Finish your paper, and take a break, relax for some time. Then sit to evaluate your paper. You need to strictly check your paper and be fair. The more you practice, the more you understand your weaknesses and strengths. It’s important to ensure that you have thoroughly evaluated your answers. Many students fall into this trap: they think they’ve done well on their practice tests and scored good marks and get startled when they are taking up the test! Fair but strict. This is how you should check your answers. This is what deliberate practice is. It is meant to be hard. It shouldn’t be too easy! Once you are done, make sure to regularly revise the topics and turn your weakness into your strengths. You should continuously revise the portions you faced difficulty in answering. Revise the topics which confuse you and have a grip on the important section numbers and clauses.
ICAI conducts mock tests before every attempt. There are two ways in which you can appear for ICAI’s mock tests:
